Failte do dh'Uibhist!
Taigh A Ghlinne is situated in the picturesque village of North Glendale which nestles on the beautiful rugged eastern coastline of the Hebridean island of South Uist.
Stroll along deserted beaches on the western side or opt for a more energetic "yomp" on the eastern side. The choice is yours!
Look out for the magnificent Sea Eagles soaring in the empty blue skies or try to spot the playful otters that splash about in the numerous lochans. Get up close to nature on the colorful machair shoreline with its explosion of wild meadow flowers.
It was here in 1928 that the renowned folklorist Margaret Fay Shaw chose to stay in a small thatched house with the MacRae sisters while she collected the material for the world famous book "Folk Songs and Folklore of South Uist".
The village is also know as the glen of muses and the Gaelic language, culture and music is very much alive and can still be heard.
Glendale is a village of Bards who were inspired to pen some of Gaelic's most famous romantic songs. What better than to listen to the haunting Peigi a Ghràidh being sung by the well known Paul McCallum whose croft the chalet is on. |
